Our first course was the unusual course at Royal North Devon, the oldest links course in England, complete with a museum. This museum is the place that Gallers found a set of clubs to use for the week!
Davie G surprised most of the tour with a superb 1st Tee shot, Cairns was one of his playing partners and he also managed to entertain people with his Tee shot, check him out later in the round.
The scoring averaged only 28 points, largely due to the wildlife on the course. Wild horses, loads of sheep (this pleased Simon, he thought he was back home in the valleys!) and a Wild Wils who threatened to not play the next day if he couldn't Tee off first. Various people claimed too have hit sheep, others almost got lost in the bunker on the 4th.
The Top 10 was very close ranging from 32 points - 39 points. Willie Will came in with what proved to be a very consistent 38 points, to claim 2nd place. But the 1st winner was the man who decided to stay at home on night one and travel to the course after a good night's sleep! Was he taking the golf seriously people were asking. Congratulations to Paddy who won on Day 1 with 39 points. Also a mention to Marky Widd who managed not to finish in last place.

Day 2 was at the superb Lanhydrock, the course was beautifully moulded into the natural landscape and this proved to be a favourite for many of the tour. The scoring average was up very slightly to 28.8 points, perhaps it may have been higher if Pick-Up had taken a day off!
The Top 6 included 4 of Day 1's Top 6, which showed a lot of consistency, as we had changed to a parkland course. Yesterday's winner Paddy came in with a creditable 33 points for a total of 72. This put him in 3rd place overall. Today's winner with a marvellous score of 42 points (As it turned out the only person to win an event here as well as in Scotland) Andy Widd. With this score he moves into 2nd place overall with a running total of 75 points. The overall leader was Mr.Consistent (No not Tenko) Willie Will with his 39 points again claims 2nd place With an overall total of 77 points, he takes the lead.

Day 3 was at St.Mellion - enough said. What a course & set-up. The jewel
of our week. The scores showed how difficult the course was with only 6 people
scoring above 30 points. (One of these was Gallers!) A mention for many
people's favourite today 'Tenko' for the 3rd day running he finished in the top
4. By his high standards today's 3rd place 35 points disappointed him. He
remains in overall 4th place with 102 points, this takes him into the last group
out on Day 4. Once again a good round by our little mate from Bristol 'Paddy',
a score of 36 points gives him 2nd place on the day as well as into 2nd place
overall with a total of 108points. Willie Will only managed 32 points for a 5th
place, but this kept him leading overall with 109 points. Today's winner moved
himself into the overall top 3 (running total 107 points) with probably the
round of the week. The Pro described it as "The best score by an amateur
for 3 or 4 years". With an outstanding 42 points Cliffy stormed the
course that most people fell apart on. This included a back 9 of 25 points! To
put this into perspective, last year's overall winner Stewart Wilson only
managed 25 points from 18 holes. The whole group took buggies as did the
guest course marshal. Click to view

Day 4 was at Bude and North Cornwall, the course that we'd over looked all week and where we were all sure that the short par 4th was going to a simple par or better - (4 No returns,5 Double boggies,5 Boggies,5 Pars and only 2 Birdies - Cliffy and Willie). Not so simple!
The round started with the 'Hat men' who had to wear silly hats for being in the last 4 places after 3 rounds. Ironically these hats were brought by Mark Roscoe (Click Here to see how smart he looks!!). Not surprisingly these guys had a fun round but didn't worry the leaders Nige won their 4 ball with a creditable 30 points.
The 'Maybe Next Year group' consisted of 2 people who were happier on the cricket field Cairns & Proc), 1 person who was distraught as he was no longer employed by TNT (Dave T) and the other person too busy sorting out a membership for Royal North Devon where the sheep roam free (Simon). They all claim to have played better in the past & as their group name suggests 'Maybe Next Year' Procy was the victor of this 4 ball with 30 points.
The 'Middle Men' consisted of 1 or 2 surprises. Last years winner couldn't cope with the pressure of attempting to defend his title (Wils Click here to see his 3rd shot on the 1st at Bude). He was also questioned on the 18th by a 13 year old who said " Can you play the game mate?" Our only single figure handicap golfer (Paffer). Also in the group Davie G & Gallers. If you check out the Orange Jacket page you will see how Gallers performed. Davie G comfortably won this 4 ball with 36 points.
The 'Nearly Men' were never really there at all. 4 experienced golfers ( Andy Widd, Badger, Daz & Edge) who maybe enjoy the social a bit to much (Click here for proof) The photo may show the reason why only 3 out of this 4 ball have ever won on tour! Having said that they all performed well on the final day all finishing in the top 9 with Badger winning overall with 42 points including an eagle 2 on the par 4 14th.
The 'Leaders' Willie, Paddy, Cliffy & Tenko 7 points separated them. After 6 holes Willie had scored 15 points, Tenko 14 points, Cliffy & Paddy 13 points. Willie's only real challenger was Tenko, both Paddy & Cliffy faded with scores of 29 & 31 points respectively. On the par 5 11th Tenko suffered a big blow when Willie superbly birdied the hole for 4 points - this put him on 27 points, with Tenko only on 23 (now 11 points behind). With 7 holes to play Tenko stormed home with 17 points, for a total of 40 points. Unfortunately for him Willie scrambled well for another 8 points to total 35 points & Take the title by 2 points overall.
